Information for Families about School Safety Procedures
The Norwalk Public Schools are working in partnership with the Norwalk Fire and Police Departments to create an inclusive safety culture, so that everyone can improve his or her level of readiness. A critical component in the plan is the classroom response to an incident at school. School staff plan and train for weather events, fire, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety. Everyone has a responsibility in a school emergency including students, teachers, staff and administration, and parents/caregivers.
Our schools are expanding the safety program to include a Standard Response Protocol (SRP) based on four simple actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter. For more information, see the enclosed flyer at the links below:

Harlem Wizards: Norwalk educators and community leaders will tip off this Sunday afternoon against the Harlem Wizards! Mayor Rilling, Superintendent Rivera and Senator Duff will be joined by Principals Martinez (Fox Run), Hay (Brookside), and Reynolds (Jefferson), plus Ponus Asst. Principal Lewis, McMahon AD Madaffari, and a star-studded line up of teachers. Can Norwalk’s team keep up with the trick-shooting Wizards? Come find out! Lottery applications for Columbus Magnet School, Jefferson Science Magnet, and the Mano a Mano Dual-Language Immersion Program at Silvermine Elementary are now available. Lottery applications will be accepted January 13, 2014 through March 28, 2014 at the school to which you are applying. The lottery will be held April 24, 2014. Applications and further information can be obtained through each of school’s website. Additionally, applications and program descriptions can be found in Kindergarten Registration Packets and through the Norwalk Public Schools Early Childhood Education Department. Families interested in learning more about Columbus Magnet School, Jefferson Science Magnet, and the Mano a Mano Dual-Language Immersion Program are encouraged to attend information sessions at the schools.
