Welcome to Testing and Evaluation
TESTING PROGRAM
The testing program is used to identify individual strengths and weaknesses and to plan for curriculum development and evaluation. The information below focuses on the major statewide testing programs: Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) and Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT).
The State of Connecticut requires all public school students in grade ten to take the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT). In March, students are tested in Mathematics, Science, Reading, and Writing. These tests are designed to evaluate the high school students’ higher order thinking skills and problem solving abilities.
The State of Connecticut requires all public school students in grades three through eight to take the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT). In March, students are tested in Mathematics, Reading, and Writing. The CMT reflects the State’s high expectations for student achievement, and allows districts to continually monitor student progress. Each student enrolled in grades five and eight take a statewide mastery test in Science.
The reports for the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) and the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) are generated by the State and mailed to parents/guardians by the local district, as soon as the State Department of Education makes them available.
