BMHS teacher, Ms. Metwally, has a friend who is going to Nicaragua and will distribute sneakers to children and adults without shoes.  Anyone who has extra sneakers laying around, and would like to help out, please bring them to room 1057, Ms. Metwally's room, by Friday, February 3rd.

This year’s Junior/Parent College Night will take place on February 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the CGS Community Room. Parents of current 11th Graders are encouraged to attend to learn more about what their student should be doing to prepare for the college admissions process at this time, and details regarding the college search and selection process will be reviewed. Parents will also be introduced to Naviance/Family Connection. This resource will prove invaluable for all families during the college search and selection process.

Tuesday, November 22nd 6pm at BMHS Casagrande Field.   Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and Faculty compete as teams in tug of war, potato sack races, wheelbarrow, dizzy bat, relay races and more.  Seniors compete for free prom tickets in a hot dog eating contest.  All this fun is followed by the Powder Puff football game with Junior girls vs. Senior girls and the boys are the cheerleaders!  Come hungry! The Parents Club will be serving food, snacks, hot chocolate, etc. at the concession stand all evening.

We are going live with our surveys.  It is the intention that these surveys provide feedback that will assist the schools and school district in our improvement efforts.

The Parent Survey will be posted on the Norwalk Public Schools website from May 23 through June 6.  There is also a Spanish version of the parent survey.

 

The Norwalk Public Schools is excited about the opportunity to obtain this feedback and increase the two-way communication between our staff and parents.

 The photo schedule with student appointments for the Class of 2012 will be posted daily in the bulletin starting on 5/15. The photos will be taken in the library classroom 5/16-5/20 starting at 7:30 am each day. The days will be listed for teachers. PLEASE remind students to go at their assigned time!

The Art Department invites you to view student artwork in the spring art show. The students' works will be hung in the gallery area next to the library

AP Pre-Registration Sessions April 26th & 27th! Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).

There will be two Pre-Administration Sessions, you must only go to one. The first will take place Tuesday, April 26 in the cafeteria lecture hall at the start of 7th period (@1:30) and will take the entire period. The second will take place Wednesday April 27 after school (@2:20), also in the cafeteria lecture hall. When you registered for AP Exams, you indicated which session you will attend, so please refer back to your registration confirmation to determine which session you need to attend. The process will take about 45 minutes. All teachers will be aware of the 7th period session on 4/26 and you should be marked as “exempt/building present.”

UCONN Application Workshop

Seniors applying to the University of Connecticut are encouraged to register for the UCONN Electronic Application Workshop. Students will have the opportunity to complete the application online on Wednesday, November 10th.  The workshop will be led by a UCONN Admissions Representative.

 

Students MUST sign up by November 3 for this workshop in the School Counseling office. Registration for the workshop is on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to 25 participants.  See Mr. Castelluzzo in School Counseling Office 11297 for additional information.

To all parents:  All Norwalk Public Schools went on a partial lockdown (at BMHS no students or faculty were allowed outside) today due to a shooting in town (not at any of our schools). The suspect has been apprehended and the lockdown lifted at 12:15 p.m.

Brien McMahon High School proudly presents award-winning off-Broadway singer (AND BMHS staff member) Tangela Smith performing a benefit concert on Friday, April 23.  Tangela was a five time reigning Apollo Theater Talent Champion in 2006, winner of the Connecticut Young Performer Award, and American Idol Contestant.  Her repertoire includes soul, blues, gospel, pop, and she gives a star-studded performance of tunes from “Beyonce to Broadway".   Tangela has been described as one of the most talented performers in the area with a style that blends elements of Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keyes, and Whitney Houston.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PROSPECTIVE AP STUDENTS AND PARENTS:  Come to the Brien McMahon Media Center (Library) on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. for our Annual AP Night. Click above for full announcment   Parents and/or students are invited to attend this important presentation regarding Advanced Placement courses. Every Year, Brien McMahon High School students excel in Advanced Placement (AP) Courses and have the opportunity to receive college credits after successfully completing the AP Exam. This year’s AP Night will include a short video explaining the benefits of taking AP Courses and Exams in high school. AP courses are college-level courses taught by AP certified teachers, and students have the possibility of earning college credit by taking AP Exams. AP teachers will be present as well to answer questions and provide information regarding their respective courses. Don’t miss this opportunity to help you make an informed decision for course selection in the spring!
