COLUMBUS MAGNET SCHOOL LOTTERY PROCESS

Columbus Magnet School is an alternative public elementary school that offers a voluntary integration program which is open to all students in grades K-5 residing in Norwalk.  Columbus operates on a Bank Street model program utilizing a Social Studies integrated curriculum.  The program emphasizes self discovery and addresses the intellectual, social and emotional needs of the child.

Columbus is designated a H.O.T. (Higher Order Thinking) School by the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.  As a H.O.T. School, Columbus integrates art and music into the curriculum while also stressing the need for a democratic school setting and increased student achievement.

How to Apply

Applications for students entering gardes K-5 are available from the Columbus Magnet School Main Office or may be downloaded by using the link below.  The submission deadline for applications is Friday, March 23rd, 2012 at 4:00pm.  Only applications received during the "application period" will be included in the Lottery Draw.

On Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 at 7:00pm., a Launch Meeting will be held at Norwalk City Hall to share more information with parents regarding the special programs offered at Columbus, Jefferson and Silvermine Schools. 

An Informational Open House will be held on Thursday, February 9th at 7:00pm at the CMS gymnasium which will provide prospective parents with an overview of school curriculm, philosphy and activities.  Guided tours are offered to prospective parents by the Columbus Student Ambassadors during the Lottery application period to showcase the wonderful learning opportunities taking place at the school.  Tours will be held on Wednesdays at 11:00am throughout the months of February and March.  Tour dates are as follows: February 15th, 22nd, & 29th and March 7th, 14th and 21st. Tours last for approximately one hour and reservations are required.
