Volunteer Information
Dear Columbus Parents;
Welcome to the start of a brand new school year! At Columubs Magnet School, we are very fortunate to have such dedicated and enthusiastic parents as part of our school community! Did you know that various studies and surveys have concluded that the more involved a parent is with a child's education, the better that child will perform both academically and emotionally? What better reason is there to volunteer?
At Columbus School we not only welcome parent volunteers, we consider it a vital part of our school community! Each family is asked to participate in at least three activities throughout the school year. We offer all types of exciting volunteer opportunities ranging from one-time activities such as the Book Fair and Triathlon to ongoing activities such as volunteering in the classroom, library or in various arts programs.
In order to help you better understand all the volunteer opportunities that exist and how you can get involved in our school community, a detailed list is featured on the following pages. Please be sure to let us know which activities you are interested in.
Please note that all first-time volunteers who will be working with children in our school on a regular basis are required to have a TB test or show proof of a negative test or chest x-ray within the past year. Our school nurse will administer the TB screenings free of charge. Please fill out the sign-up sheet for the TB test and we will contact you with an appointment for the test. You will also need to fill out a volunteer registration form to be kept on file.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (203) 899-2840, ext. 118. Or better yet, why not stop by the Family Room and say, "Hello!" The Family Room is located in the Kindergarten Wing across from the Strings Room and is a great place for parents and staff to gather for refreshments, informal gatherings and informational meetings.
I look forward to meeting and working with all of you!
With Warm Regards,
Terri Gaberman
Parent Coordinator
