A sheet was passed around for those who wanted to sign-up to chair one of these events. A flyer will also be distributed to the whole school and sent home for parents to sign-up to volunteer for various events. Emily mentioned that she would like to open the Executive Board Meetings to those who have volunteered to head a committee and/or run an event.
Welcome back “Ice Cream Social” will be on Friday, September 25th from 6:30 – 8:00pm. Cost is $3 pp or $10 per family. Tammy McKinnon volunteered to run this event and is looking for volunteers to help out.
Halloween Bingo will take place on Friday, October 23rd. This will be run by the 5th Grade as a fundraiser. Due to the amount of field trips and activities the 5th grade class has throughout the year, they will be establishing a “5th Grade Account Chairperson” to handle the account. They will communicate with the teachers and keep track of monies needed and spent for the year.
The “International Pot Lot Dinner” (11/13) and the “Vendor Fair” (11/14) will take place during the same weekend. The “International Dinner” will take place in the gym and the “Vendor Fair” will take place off property.
Emily is very pleased with the outcome of the new pick-up and drop-off procedures. She suggested that to make pick-up easier for everyone she would like parents to place a sign with their last name in their window so teachers know which child to dismiss.
Everyone was so pleased with the outcome of last year’s ‘Adventure’s in Art’ mosaic project that this year we will also have an ongoing project of some sort and display at the end of the year.
Lorraine Gordon reported that Spirit Wear is available for purchase and she has t-shirts and sweatshirts (child and adult) in stock in many colors and sizes. Children should be encouraged to wear their shirts on Fridays.
Lorraine has also volunteered to take on the yearbook this year.
The school directory is currently on hold until we get the updated guidelines from the district.
Emily is interviewing for a new Parent Coordinator and an Intervention Aide (both 25 hrs. p/w). The website will be updated once the Parent Coordinator position is filled.
CMT scores are out and Emily is happy to report that Columbus had a greater than 10% growth in students.
It is imperative that the entire school, eligible or not, fill out the “Free/Reduced Lunch” forms. Emily explained that our school’s “Title One” funds are determined by these forms and it could bring a considerable amount of money into our school.
The next general meeting will be Thursday, October 8th at 7:00pm.
