Caleb Lewis

Mission Title: Mission Specialist

Caleb Lewis is a member of the 2009 Columbus Magnet School Young Astronaut program. He likes to use his imagination to come up with ideas for inventions (such as robots) and cooking recipes. His imagination is improved by his favorite adventure movies; Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Harry Potter.
Born on September 2, 1998, the 86 pound, 4-foot 7½ -inch Lewis has lived in Norwalk, CT for all but seven months of his ten years. Caleb moved from his birthplace of Seoul, South Korea, before he was one year old. Having flown a great distance at an early age, flying has interested him for most of his life.
Caleb has attended Columbus Magnet School since kindergarten, and has been a member of Young Astronauts since first grade. He likes math, geography, and has done well on his Connecticut Mastery Tests. Lewis has always been interested in learning about the planets, and loves anything to do with geography. Outside of school, he likes gym games, basketball, and baseball, where his positive attitude has made him a team favorite. He also enjoys family football games with his older brother Nathaniel, a 2008 payload specialist, and younger sister Abby, a third grade Young Astronaut. He also likes caring for his two pet hermit crabs, Hermie and Wormy.
Caleb’s personal goal for the 2009 mission is to solve as many problems as he can in space, and to have the mission be a success. He wants to learn how to go to the moon and back, and why there is less gravity on the moon than on Earth. He is also interested in the great Saturn V rocket, and would like to help build the rocket to get to Mars and back. He is curious to know if Mars has a harder surface than the moon, and would like to map it.
An altar server at St. Philip’s Church in Norwalk, Caleb’s greatest hero is God Almighty. Caleb is looking forward to working with his fellow astronauts, and can’t wait to do the mission. In the future, he plans to relax, and own a fudge and ice cream shop.
