 Mission Update May 7, 2009 11:00am

 

Good morning, this is Public Affairs Officer Esha Sharma .

 

Shortly after reaching earth orbit, Luna Redux was given the “Go” for trans lunar insertion, allowing the spacecraft to escape earth’s gravitational pull and begin its journey to the moon.

 

Minutes after after TLI, CMP, Aaron Post, and LMP, Jessica Magnoli, performed the delicate transposition, extraction and docking. Thus the command module, Columbia, and the lunar module, Eagle are now connected.  

 

The combined stack will now continue on its journey to the moon. Guidance Officer, James Hobayan, estimates that the spacecraft are approximately 205,000 miles from
