Our Students
Jefferson's dedicated staff educates students from kindergarten to grade five. Among the five hundred fifty students enrolled at Jefferson School, twenty-six languages are spoken.
Our Goals
In the fall of 2006, we opened as a magnet school with a science focus. Our students are engaged in hands-on studies of the life, physical, and earth sciences. Our goal is to support the social, emotional, and intellectual development of students to enable them to become inquiring, knowledgeable, and compassionate young people who are lifelong learners. The experiences, instruction, and authentic learning components that Jefferson Science Magnet School provides our students will emphasize the impact of their learning and actions on both the Norwalk community and the larger world around us.
Community Partners with Our Program
The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk has joined us in the design and implementation of our Science program. Students have numerous in-school and off-site experiences where they work on instructional problems, collect data, and draw conclusions. These uniquely designed experiences are the basis of lessons both before and after their off-site learning experiences. The observations and data from these experiences are real time, hands on, and integrated by the Jefferson staff and program partners into the other core content areas.
Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk has also partnered with us and delivers both in school and museum experiences for our students in kindergarten through second grade. All kindergarten parents receive a family memberships to the museum, and experience several evening events during the school year just for them.
GE Capital, based in Norwalk, partners with us with our Mentor program and with our technology education through our E-Pal program for Fifth Graders.
