The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a non profit organization that is a collective team effort that members include Jefferson parents and teachers. An Executive Board of officers is voted in annually.

  This year the PTO plans to Fund:   

v     enrichment programs (in class and assembly) 

v     field trips 

v     end of the year activities for the 5th Grade 

v     homework folders for K-2 and calendar planners for the 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th grade classes 

v     murals in the library 

The PTO also organizes many fun events throughout the year like: 

v     monthly PTO meetings, please check the calendar for schedule 

v     Beginning of year Pizza and Ice Cream Social 

v     the Harvest Dance 

v     the Holiday Shop 

v     the Snowflake Dance 

v     the Spring Raffle 

v     incentive treats for CMT 

v     dinner for Staff during March conferences 

We also strive to provide our children with a sense of community and team work and to demonstrate that, as parents, we can and want to be involved in their education.

PTO Officers

How to become a member of the Executive Board: 

A PTO notice goes home towards the end of the school year advising parents or guardians that it's time to nominate yourself if you are interested in being on the board for the upcoming school year's board. The letter will also explain the board positions and duties. Any parent or guardian is a member of the PTO and may submit a nomination form to the nominating committee stating which position you would be interested in holding. The vote for any nominated person will be held the night of Spring concert.  Check your child’s backpack for the nomination form and Spring concert dates. 

 Membership 

Any parent or guardian is a member of the Jefferson Science Magnet PTO.  There are regular PTO meetings on the 2^nd Thursday of the month at 6:30 in the evening in the Jefferson library where PTO business is discussed and we also have guest speakers or programs for parents and children to enjoy.  Babysitting and translators are also available.                                                                                        

Volunteer

 We host several family events such as ice cream socials, dances, field day etc. Volunteering is a wonderful way for you to connect with fellow parents!  For more information about volunteering at Jefferson, please contact the one of PTO Officers listed on the PTO home page.

Fundraisers 

Fall Fundraisers: 

WRAPPING PAPER:

This is our first and most successful fund raising event since it's the fundraiser that starts us out for the year! Jefferson children will receive booklets with items to sell. They will receive their order forms, catalogues and bring them home the first week of school. For the safety of your child - Parents please solicit and accompany your child to make these sales from family, co-workers, friends, and neighbors that YOU KNOW! Don't worry Parents/Guardians you will be provided in that packet with specific instructions including the dates of the sale, who to make checks out to and what potential prizes the students may earn for the most sales.  These items will be delivered to your child’s classroom in the middle of October.  If the order is too big for a child to bring home we will call you to come and pick it up.

FROZEN PIES & COOKIE DOUGH:

This fundraiser was our second most successful fundraiser of the year.  Jefferson children will receive booklets with items such as frozen pies, cookie dough and appetizers items to sell.  They will receive their order forms, catalogues to bring home at the end of October.  For the safety of your child – Parents please solicit and accompany your child to make these sales from family, co-workers, friends and neighbors that YOU KNOW!!!  Don’t worry, Parents/Guardians you will be provided in that packet with specific instructions including the dates of the sale, who to make the check out to and what potential prizes your child can earn for the most sales.  These items will be delivered in time to use for holiday celebrations.  These items need to be PICKED UP. Notices will go home with your child several days prior to the pick-up.  All items need to be picked up on that day because we don’t have the room to store perishable items.

BOOK FAIR: 

The annual book fair is held the first week of November in the library.  This gives the students an opportunity to buy books and with some of the profit from these sales go directly to the library.  The book fair hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  It is also open late on the night of conferences until 8:00 p.m.  We are also looking for parent/guardian volunteers to help work during these hours.  If you would like to volunteer contact Sarah Duddy.

 This event is held the night of the Spring Concert.  We are looking for donations and volunteers.  More details to follow.
