WELCOME TO THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT

The Guidance Program is designed to provide comprehensive guidance and counseling services
responding to the developmental needs of high School students in the areas of personal/Social
growth, academic performance, and post-secondary education/vocation planning. Guidance
counselors are complementary to the administrative, teaching, and support staffs of the school.
The collaboration and mutual support of these groups is essential to the implementation of guidance
objectives. The program is committed to providing each student with continuity in the relationship to
one counselor throughout high school.

PHILOSOPHY

The Developmental Guidance Program of Norwalk Public Schools is designed to provide comprehensive
guidance and counseling services responding to the development needs of all students:
Personal/Social Learning/Educational Career/Vocational

The program recognizes the unique qualities of each individual student and provides students with
opportunities to acquire or improve competencies in the areas of school adjustment and achievement,
career planning and exploration, decision-making and knowledge of self and others.
