From the Principal's Desk
May 2012
How fast time flies! This has really and truly been an incredibly successful school year. Our students performed at the highest level in the District on the Connecticut Mastery Test and made AYP (Adequately Yearly Progress) for three consecutive years. We were rated by CONNCAN as the most improved school in the State, based on our student performance, and were selected as a Success Story School.
Among the many wonderful achievements and events, our students produced our first musical in our school history: Annie jr.
With the help of our wonderful parents and PTC, we put in place a third computer lab, for all of our students to reap its benefits.
I want to congratulate everyone for such a wonderful year, as it has been a year of increased communication and participation by all.
You have all contributed so much in making Roton a school of choice - a school where the “R” continues to stand for “Rigor”. With your support I look forward to continued growth in the years to come.
Please encourage your child to read this summer! Here are nine ways to encourage your child to read:
1. Set an example.
2. Furnish your home with a variety of reading materials.
3. Give your child an opportunity to choose his/her own books.
4. Build on your child's interest.
5. View pleasure reading as a value in itself.
6. Read some books written for teens.
7. Make reading aloud a natural part of family life.
8. Acknowledge your child's mature interests.
9. Keep the big picture in mind - some teens go through periods without showing much interest in reading.
I wish you a wonderful summer, and should you need to call me or meet with me, I will certainly be available.
Joseph M. Vellucci, Principal
